The Eucharistic Ministry of Our Lady of China Pastoral Mission was established in 1989 with five parishioners serving as Special/ Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, more commonly known as Eucharistic Ministers in short. The number has since increased to ten.
These Eucharistic Ministers are commissioned in accordance with the norms of the "Instruction on Facilitating Communion in Particular Circumstances" (Immensae Caritatis) and the guidelines of the Archdiocese of Washington. They each serve a term of 3 years renewable only once for another 3 years. They are chosen for an important office, to live the Christian Life by taking their faith seriously, giving good examples and practicing the fraternal charity commanded by our Lord.
Eucharistic Ministers play an important role in serving the parish.
- They are assistants to the pastor/priests.
- They are servants of the Church, serving not only the parish but also the Church. Through their services, they are witnesses of the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- They are the bridges between the parish and the faithful.
The services of the Eucharistic Ministers include:
- To assist in the distribution of Eucharist during Mass.
- To visit and deliver Eucharist to the elderly or the sick after Sunday mass.
